Guess I’m Stuck in the Dark — Heartworms

Just uploaded a few days ago.

If I haven’t said it enough before, I just wanted to point out that I can’t explain quite what it is about Jojo Orme (aka Heartworms), but I really-really like her vibe and music. It very much has the feel of the 80s music scene with a modern twist that I can’t quite put my finger on.

Of course, her rendition of Dominion (Sisters of Mercy) sealed the deal for me. While far from my favorite Sisters song, I quite enjoyed hearing her new take on it. But Chris turned me onto her sound before that, so I was already halfway there.

Warning: here be bugs.

I am very much of the same thinking as you – I very much like what she does, but find it difficult to explain why. Perhaps it’s that it feels like something you know, yet it completely new. Maybe, too, the visual aspect which seems to be part of the work as a whole.
    Regardless, it’s totally my bag!

Maybe it’s that Ian Curtis crossed with Siouxsie vibe. Her dancing/movement is reminiscent of the same energy as Ian’s, with the New Order-ish sequencing (as if they had modern tools in the 80s) with some of the energy of Siouxsie’s singing and the Banshees experimental nightmare fuel to the musical tone, but less emphasis on guitar. All without feeling campy or derivative. Fresh.

I’m so glad you got me hooked on her.

And PJ! Definitely heavy on the PJ feel.
