discomfiture worn like
a tight timed test with
each drowning breath
slipping under regret
there is already
hell being paid in
spades and forgotten
fading memories
coming undone
a thread unspooling
into the setting sun
it is no less than
everything deserved
spades

Love the imagery of a thread unspooling into the setting sun. Also, that last line hits.

Thank you Bridgette.
I felt like giving my left hook a flex last night. Probably influenced by the grim film I watched earlier.

What did you watch?

Nothing at all expressed in the poem itself, but probably colored it…
28 Years Later: Bone Temple

Oh, that’s on my watch list. Did you like it?

Yes. The ending was slightly par for the course, but it was otherwise both interesting and fun to watch with my eldest.
That opening verse, painful.
How I interpreted it. 😉

Odd. I was trying to evoke kittens and butterflies. 🤔
😂
I know, my sense of humor is a little off center.
Thanks.

😂
A bit harsh. Do we really get what we deserve? It would be nice to think so but I suspect not. Do we make our own luck? More just chance I think.
Anyway, I love the flow and rhythm of this piece, Michael.

Thanks Chris.
It’s all probably a little heavy on the neopagan karma philosophy and three times multiplier when you account for luck. That still lingers on my unconscious thoughts, although I’ve come a long way from that kind of thinking in general.
And sometimes mistakes were made that can’t be fixed.
