dream harder in dream

handbound at nightfall
hazel at the headwater we
cast out drink up and dream

i can only offer a dream harder
for pan's skies and evermore
a kiss in whispered secrets

dream harder in dream

“dream harder”—love this, to control our dreams with adjectives, harder or softer…interesting.

Thanks. I guess I’m trying to make the act of dreaming less passive and more active, if that makes sense.

Absolutely! When I was younger, I felt like I had more control over my dreams. Lately, I’ve been too stressed and while they are as vivid as ever, I don’t seem to be as much of an active participant (if that makes sense.) I’d like to get back to the time when I could relax into my dreams more.

It makes complete sense to me. I’m actually going through a phase where my dream are happening to me rather than being a part of me. More like watching a movie than being an actor in a play and I’m used to the latter.

This happens to me all the time. Just last night, I had a dream in which I was part of a historical reenactment group, but way in the future, at least a hundred years from now. We were acting out things happening in the news right now, and commenting on how crazy it must have been to live in the time of the dictator. In this movie/dream, humanity had survived, but after things got much darker. Hopefully it wasn’t a prophetic dream.

I hope not! But I’ve had similar content dreams the past four or five years, so who knows? I’m trying to remain hopeful, but after the last few months here… It’s hard to at times.

I can imagine it’s been difficult having the epicenter of things being so very close to you.

Stressful for everyone in our city. I’m not convinced we’re done, but we’ll see.

I’m curious, do you find you like these movie dreams better than being an acting participant? I’m not sure which I prefer at the moment.

I lean towards having agency. But it’s mostly what I’m used to. It’s hard to be passive when you’ve had a “choose your own adventure” dreamscape for most of your life.
