dreamtest

I have intensely vivid dreams. From what I gather from having talked to people over the years, they tend to be more vivid than many people’s dream and I am often given more agency within the dream than most people claim to have (meaning, I can make choices that change the story or nature of the dream), and I can read one to five words at a time (book titles, street names), and retain it upon waking. Reading signs and books in dream tends to be especially hard for most people (but not all people), if they even think to do it (knowing what something “says” and “reading it” are two different things in dream).

I had a series of especially vivid dreams last night and I have a little experiment I think might be interesting to try out. One of you was in one of my dreams last night. The dream space took place in an old theater and we were sitting in red, velvet-covered seats in the dark. I eventually pointed to the stage while leaning over to you and whispered, “Watch. See. This is important.”

If you want to play along with this very unscientific experiment, name two significant features or actions that took place before I whispered, if you had a similar dream last night.

If someone tells me one accurate significant detail (preferably two) and is the person I had a sense you were, I’ll privately confirm the matching details and discuss if they want to have that shared or remain anonymous. Telling me that the theater was dark or providing other non-significant details doesn’t count. I’m thinking of several actions or notable details (i.e., you had a black eye; just as an example) that seemed important while the dream was happening.

For the record, I don’t expect the right person to stand up or (if they do) provide me with matching details. I will accept that the sense of the person I thought was in a dream with me might be wrong as well. It might not be anyone from here.

Thanks in advance if you pipe in. Consider it a fun game where there are no winners or losers, just the act of playing a game so that I can test something.

I only had a dream last night where I saw a map and read it all. Then woke up saying, oh, I better write that down. But didn’t. Good luck!

You should have! It might lead you to buried treasure.

Naw, it wasn’t that kind of map.

        1. michael raven Avatar

😉It was probably more interesting or fun than buried treasures.

            Not really. Just symbols.

Well, you never know where it will last you until you try to recall and follow. Maybe it’ll return?

I am going to pipe in because I tend to be a piper. But not because I think I was in the dream, just to mention dreams in general. I have vivid nightmares. I guess as you might imagine. They horrify me and they tend to be about two individuals and they are nightmarish for different reasons. Dreams though, I don’t have too many. Occasionally but then they tend to drift away upon waking so it might just be that I don’t recall them.
I do hope you find ‘your person’ 😜 Because that would be so phenomenal.

I cannot confirm or deny if it was you. 😁

As I said, it would be interesting if something came up from this, but I strongly suspect my shadow self was having fun at my expense. Or got the person mixed up. Vivid dreams are sometimes only useful in the message sent in the dream, not in the details surrounding the message, which can be completely off the mark. Still, for testing something out, I have some pretty solid things that someone else should remember from a dream, but are not easy to guess. I figured that I might as well see what happens.

Yeah, knowing what you’ve shared with me, I expect your dreams to be haunted by at least one person I can think of, and I might even guess correctly the second. I am still grumpy about some of those things.

        Me too! lol

Still, i hope you get what you’re looking for. Sounds like an interesting test

I am interested in learning if the other person had the same dream. That would be one strong mental link if they did.

    1. michael raven Avatar

It would. But I really hope people see this as a parlor game rather than something that will lead to any further OMG discussion about this dream. Sometimes a dream is just a dream, no matter how vivid.

You 2 are in an old theater watching a magic show. It’s a new theatre group performing select scenes from Stranger in a Strange Land. The part being performed is the same scene from the book where Valentine is performing the same magic trick before an audience. You’ve read it. You know what’s going to happen and you know if the your friend doesn’t pay close attention, it will be missed.

Fantastic. Did you know I was a Heinlein fan?

      Did you dream that? 😁

      1. Chico’s Mom Avatar

I did not know you are a Heinlein fan.

        I’ll never tell.

LMAO. While not everything aged super well, I still think he’s one of the best sci-fi writers of all time…

          Shhhh….

It sounds like a fun dream! Reminds me of a cinema from my childhood, sadly demolished now, but the red velvet curtains took me right back! I have no idea who your looking for but enjoy the seeking & replies 😊 I got rudely awakened by builders this morning – sounded like the hulk was having a temper tantrum in the street 😂

    1. michael raven Avatar

      LMAO. Hulk in your backyard.

I don’t know what I’m looking for other than there were distinct things that occurred in the dream that stood out as absolutely important. If someone says any of the essential components, I’ll be surprised. I’m probably just blowing smoke and hoping it turns into something else so I can be surprised.

Sounds like fun, but it wasn’t me in the dream. I hope you find someone and let us know what transpires! Fascinating. 🙂

Probably “parlor tricks” is all and not a particularly good one. Still… It is fun to see the responses. Especially everyone being certain to assure me they are not the one.

I’m beginning to wonder if I have a communicable disease 🤣

      1. lyndhurstlaura Avatar

I don’t think so! 🤣 I have a friend who wrote a book about two women who began to dream each other’s lives, so you never know … 😊

        1. michael raven Avatar

Perhaps something along the lines of Charlotte Sometimes? LOL.

          1. lyndhurstlaura Avatar

            Yes that too! 😊

I can’t recall any dreams from last night. But I will say your dream gave me some really heavy “Mulholland Drive” vibes. Hope the experiment leads to some insight.

    1. michael raven Avatar

You know what? I haven’t seen that film, but the dream had a very Lynch vibe to it.

Not his super bonkers stuff, more like the mild parts of Blue Velvet. Thanks Jenn. 💙

      1. Jennifer Patino Avatar

oh man, I hope you watch it someday. I love all his stuff. Super bonkers is kinda my thing. 🙂

I’ve been meaning to. I should see if the library has a copy for loan….
