AUTHOR’S NOTE and EARLY CONCEPTS
[Aug 9, 09:44] Video — Recon 2
[Video, POV: Storefront Alice identified as the location of Aurora Records, in front of what appears to be the main entrance of the building. The Mayo building is visible to the right. The marquee identifies the space as being occupied by a restaurant specializing in steak and sushi. Camera pans over the facade.]
Screw this influencer shit. If something needs to be said, I can dub it in later.
I’m not sure that steak and sushi is an upgrade. Looks cleaner, but that’s about it. I wonder if Kyle knew about what they did to this place. Probably? Maybe?
Maybe not. He was all about not clinging.
Still.
[disgusted sound] I can’t believe Nils. Sorry, babe, Sickle Moon isn’t a dirge. You might have thought about playing it at the right speed, Master Audiophile.
[00:49]
[Video: Pans to the theater marquee next door to the restaurant, part of the same building. The sign reads “Pantages” from top to bottom. The marquee announces a show coming 8/16: “The Jim Nightshade Carnival w/ Terror Couple Kill”. Camera pans to the space between the restaurant and the theater. Lingers on the plate glass.]
Damn. While I knew it was a long shot after all this time, I was kind of hoping the Java was still in that spot, with their twice-boiled sweet Turkish coffee. I could use a bit of what Kyle called my hot mud about now.
[Video: Camera pans to the parking lot adjacent to the theater and starts moving towards it.]
I’m not seeing any obvious places we could get in from the front. And that steak joint doesn’t look like the kind of place that would let someone just wander in and ask for access to the basement.
Besides, that DK said it was sealed up there. Wonder how he knows.
[Video: Camera pans over a mostly empty parking lot set between the theater and another building to the left. There is space between the theater and the parking lot, separated by concrete privacy block that is shaped like stylized clover or lily. In the rear of the parking lot is the star-painted building previously identified as the First Avenue/7th Street entry nightclub.]
[01:41]
[Video: Camera tracks along the privacy block. There are parked cars between the camera and the wall as Alice walks its length towards the nightclub. Focuses on black metal stairs coming out of the Pantages building and visible above the concrete block.]
Looks like an exit from the theater. Or maybe something that used to be an exit. A fire exit? Hard to tell from this angle and with the block, but… Maybe an entry point?
[Video: Camera drifts back to follow the length of the wall. The camera then pans to the left towards the nightclub. Alice stops about fifty feet short of the rear of the building. The camera pans across the star-studded wall.]
Possibly the Ave? You’d think it would be common knowledge, though, if you could still get in there. As kali said, loose lips and that place has seen too many people since our day to keep a secret like that particular one. Naw.
[03:12]
[Video: Camera pans across the parking lot to a building opposite of the Pantages theater. Camera zooms in and focuses on the ivory-painted brick architecture.]
That building’s been there for a while. I wonder—
[Video: Camera approaches and scans the brick facade.]
Nothing there. Dammit.
[Video: Alice walks to the brown marble faced front of the building. One entrance is marked as “Lofts”. The camera pans across the front, right to left. Another sign identifies the place as an education center.]
No dice. Wasn’t this a Zantigo when we were kids? Maybe the bac—
Wait.
[04:26]
[Video: Camera focuses on an informational plaque about chest level on corner of the building. Alice reads from the visible plaque.]
Lincoln Bank… 1921…Below grade vault kept intact…
[Video: Camera looks down the stretch of 8th Street and back to the front doors.]
Wonder if that’s the only underground part kept intact.
This is definitely where Zantigo was. I’m almost certain.
