I going to start reading something eye candy, I just haven’t decided which. Decisions can be hard when you have sleep issues like I’ve been having the past month or so.
I thought about doing another read-along, but the eye-candy element doesn’t really support discussion. I’m not talking about anything mentally deep or emotionally stimulating here. Well, one or two of my considered titles might be, but I don’t think it takes a masters degree in literature to decipher. Or even an AA degree.
Books I have on hand and I am considering:
- Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Phillip K Dick (a reread)
- The Complete Witcher Saga (all the books), Andrzej Sapkowski (a reread except the last two available titles)
- The Black Company, Glen Cook (first of 12 books, unread yet, combined editions are available)
- Snow Crash, Neal Stephenson (I can’t recall if I read it)
- Neuromancer, William Gibson (a reread, but have totally forgotten)
I’m leaning towards either of the Witcher and Black Company series; the first to remind myself of the events surrounding the cannon lore around Ciri in prep for Witcher 4 (or Witcher 1 remake), the latter because I am feeling all grimdark. But the others are tempting tales too.
Maybe I’m just lacking in sleep, which makes anyone surly. Or maybe I’m naturally surly and the lack of sleep removes the mask. I was hoping eye-candy might ameliorate some of the darkness leaking out.
Of the above, which would you be most inclined to read? Quick quick, hurry hurry.

My choice is “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.” I’m fairly certain I read this 50+ years ago when I was on a mission to read my way through the science fiction section of my smalltown library. I succeeded and illegally obtained a library card from the neighboring town’s library, which had a larger science fiction selection. But please don’t tell anyone…..
🤐 your secret’s safe with me. I probably should get that every-decade or so read out of the way 😂
Well, I’m a sucker for PKD… so of course I’m gonna say that one 😉
🤣 I guess people are going make sure I read that first. Thanks for the recommendation. 💙
I’ve only read Androids. I thinks I’d go with Snow Crash.
I’ve never read “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” and that’s the one that popped out at me. Shall add it to my tbr list 😉
It is the inspiration for Blade Runner, just in case you were not aware. You’ll have to let me know what you think.
Oooh, I enjoyed those movies! 😊
Already about a third of the way through (it is not a long book), recognizing both the similarities and differences from the first movie. Some lines from the film are wholesale lifted from the book, other themes have been modified to suit the vision Scott had when he directed it and I am seeing those matching patterns for the first time.
I might have to watch the movie again…
I must read this as well. Not a reread for me. Tehanu from Ursula LeGuin is also on my list, as is Howard’s The Tower of the Elephant (I think it’s the Conan story that caught me as a young boy on a camping trip-I have to go see)
I actually had Conan on my brain as well, but decided against it. I am also wondering just how bad the Brok the Barbarian series was compared to my memory of one of the books as a tween. At the time, it was top notch stuff. That’s twelve for you, though 🤣
