Well, everyone is settling in just fine. One of my older cats would probably be jealous that I am allowing the new guys into my office, but there is an element of training me as much as these two on that — I had a bad experience with losing electronic gear to investigative gnawing and I have to get the courage to accept that I can train them to not chew such things.
As promised, here are some photos done on a higher quality camera with some software lighting and color corrections. They were both thoroughly played out when I took these photos earlier and they became comatose shortly thereafter. It was the only way to get the to sit still.

Right now, they are being particularly busy generating mayhem and chaos in the basement level of the house. And now that we have an understanding that the wires are not chew toys, it is mostly just checking in on the chirps and the crashes.
Chirps. That’s a new experience for me. Maine Coons trill and meow. Skogkatter chirp. At least the kittens do. It is not the same as the trill. It sounds like they might be crying, but you realize quickly that this is just their vocalizations. It’s like a higher pitched, quicker hertz trill — somewhat birdlike in tone.
I thought it was distress yesterday. Nope. It is just plain chatter. And… BOY are these lads full of chatter.
Of the two, Grímnir is the “in charge” kitten, although Grendel is not going to just put up with it. Still, what Grímnir does, Grendel has to try at the same time, whether it is trying a new adventure, or climbing into the same litter box. Like siblings, sometimes they disagree and duke it out. But it is usually over quick and without bloodshed (such as at this moment; I’m not sure what offended Grímnir but he felt the need to put Grendel in his place.
Still not recognizing names yet, but we’re having a good understanding about boundaries and following my finger. Clicker sounds make their ears perk up, so I suspect they are starting to make some connections.
Right now, I think all of us are recovering from yesterday, but things are going in a positive direction.

Welcome!!
💕
So damn cute! Welcome home kiddos!
Thank you, Jennifer.
I might have to try to catch them in action at some point. They’re a blast to watch.
They’re gorgeous! I’m glad you’re forming a relationship, chirps, enthusiastic play and all – and a bit of play does add energy to a household, as I discovered with my sister’s new pup recently. Hope things continue in this positive direction. 🙂
The next big hurdle is the full integration with the inevitable hissing and spitting and gauntlet of batting at each other. Not looking forward to that part, but there’s rarely an easy way past it. There’s always the “feather display” to let everyone know where everyone else sits.
I guess it can’t be avoided, but I suppose the hierarchy will exert itself to make sure everyone knows their place. I’m sure you’ll get there. 🙂
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
omg Michael. when they get their own social media, i trust that you will share. not that you would do that sort of thing, but seriously. i cannot get enough of these floofs : )
Thank you. I think their social media accounts are or of the running because their dad is a mean old meany.
There is some serious cuteness overload happening in the house, though, so dad will probably share some of it here. 🐈⬛
You weren’t kidding, those are some huge paws.
And you can’t even see Grendel’s back paws. If i didn’t know better I’d think he was a polydactyl at a glance.
Hemingway cats! Good luck on boats!
Less mice, at least. These guys are natural killers, I can tell already.
Those are some seriously adorable kittens! So glad to hear they are settling in well.
They are largely sweethearts. I need to spend more time with them, but external situations get in the way. So it goes, as Vonnegut used to say.
