I remember reading No Exit and being terrified. If there is a hell, that’s it. Love the last line.
No Exit was my first Sartre and it was very “sticky” as a result. I ended up reading a lot of existential literature shortly afterwards. I recall thinking that the only thing that would make matters worse for the people in that room is to add yet another person.
I read a lot of the existentialist too when I was young. But that play…yes, you’re right, a fourth person would only add to its hellishness.
