In 2026 I am continuing in my goal to return to less online reading and more offline reading. Compared to 2025, 2026 brings with it some actual goals, whereas last year I was just trying to jumpstart a new habit (actually, it was a return to an old habit that had fallen by the wayside).
In 2025, I set a Goodreads goal of 20 books between September 1 and December 31, 2025. While book counts are note the best metric of the volume read (some books have more pages than others), I have set my Goodreads goal to read 75 books in 2026. Below is my current 2026 progress:
A more realistic picture of how much is read is the number of pages and my primary goal will be to read 25,000 pages in 2026. To view my current progress go to my profile stats page.
In the following section are the books I am currently reading. Below that are the books I’ve finished reading in 2026; however, please note some of those reads started in late 2025. They are in reverse-order of completion.
Comments are open in case you feel a need to weigh in on any of the books below or to make suggestions.
Current/planned reads

The Blacktongue Thief (Blacktongue #1), Christopher Buelman
In progress.

Best Served Cold, Joe Abercrombie [audiobook]
In progress; 70% read.

Trouble Boys: The True Adventures of The Replacements, Bob Mehr
In progress; 50% read.
Finished reads
Forks firmly stuck in these for the time being.

Caliban’s War (The Expanse #2), James S.A. Corey
Finished 08jan26. Another good entry in The Expanse series of books. As far as space opera goes, this scratches plenty of itches, although there is some charm missing that was present in the first book. That said, beginnings are often more interesting than “beings”, so I look forward to where this series might be heading. Short break, first, to avoid burnout.
Recommended for people who like science-grounded science fiction, although more elements of fantasy appeared in this novel.
