we are

Photo by Sina Bakhtiari on Unsplash
we put on the happy mask
-- we are not happy
we put on the charm
-- we are no prince charming
we sell dreams in plastic
-- we are just hollow inside

hey sing me sad sad songs
and i'll remember my place
just send me a kiss when
you lay me down forehead
sweat in fever remember
recall...

I understand that feeling. Well said, my friend. 🙂

Excellently expressed, Michael. We become very adept at wearing different masks in different situations. Perhaps that’s not too bad if we know who we really are? Just a thought.

I’m not always sure people know the difference between themselves and their masks.

This is the issue, I feel – people become absorbed by the faces (or one particular face) that they use as they feel it fits a purpose until eventually they no longer recognise themselves. Probably leads to a lot of extreme emotional reactions which they are unable to reconcile as they can no longer understand from where they come.
        Theories…

I like your theory. I certainly don’t recognize the faces I used to wear.

Excellent. This feels like it could be put to music. Those sad songs….

I’m toying around with some progressions: some weird F# minor Dorian thing, if you can believe AI when I asked it about my progression. I’m getting closer, but it’s not ready for prime time. I’m unsettled on the lyrics, perhaps I’ll see if this piece fits.

Sad songs do have a special place and purpose. 🎶

Mine too. As a child I heard my share of sad country songs (thanks parents). Different genres now. 😊 I am not an App person (much to my daughter’s frustration), but I do love streaming music.

It’s nice to have access to all the songs I grew up with and sold when in dire straits with cash. I do appreciate streaming.
