yes, Virginia…

It is damned cold out there… (That’s in Fahrenheit, BTW).

I thought for a moment that it’s very cold. You got me with the Fahrenheit:)

Yeah it’s closer to -30°C. With the wind? Feels like -40°C 🥶

Damn, AI mislead me that it’s -8 😀 -40 sounds like stay-inside type of weather.

It’s funny. I can think in Celsius when I do science (and usually do because of my job), but when it comes to how the temp feels, I need to see it in Fahrenheit. It’s an odd quirk.

I learned something new today, however… that both measurements converge at around -40° before going their separate ways again. Funny how that never has come to my attention before.

Yeah, when your house actually audibly groans and pops around you, it’s best to stay home unless you don’t have a choice about the matter.

Ugh. That is cold. I guess we are warm here at 14 degrees.

14°F, son, is darned near shorts and sandals weather. 🤣

I like to tell people days like this are “merely bracing” or “slightly brisk”. Then they think I am completely bonkers.

Time to toss out a cup of boiling water and watch it freeze before it hits the ground…

Haha. Knowing Buffalo, there are probably some in shorts. But the temps you are having are deadly. I’ve seen videos of the boiling water. Crazy.

          There’s always someone, isn’t there?

Yeah, they have warming shelters set up for people to get out of the cold today. Unhomed or those who live in slums.

            Stay warm!!!

I guess I have NOTHING to complain about with the 73 degrees here today. Stay warm!

Guess you don’t need to beware of falling iguanas today… 🤣

        No, don’t think so 🤣

I think I’ve told you this story before but in Burnsville we used to have to wait outside the elementary school for them to open up the doors and let us in. We’d stand up on the balcony around the rotunda and spit down into it and watch the spit freeze before it hit the ground. Ah, Minnesota memories.

I have vague memories of doing something similar, just to watch the spit shatter. It was probably an elementary school thing (seems so, anyway).

That and trying to convince non-Minnesotan kids to lick metal poles. Kids were cruel as hell back then (I was not a participant in that scheme).

      1. shredbobted Avatar

Hee hee. I never did that. But I’m still scared of flagpoles when it’s that cold. You can feel the danger coming off the metal.

Did you…? You didn’t…. Did you?

    Perfect weather for ICE then!
    Sorry, joke in bad taste.
    That is beyond cold!

    1. michael raven Avatar

Yeah, most of those outsiders have never seen this kind of weather, where it literally hurts just to walk from house to garage, even with winter gear. Frostbite to exposed skin in less than 10 minutes.

Minnesotans. Well, we just hunker down and listen to the pine trees explode and the house audibly groan.

      1. chrisnelson61 Avatar

        Not for me, thank you!

No vacations in balmy Minnesota? Pshaw.
