Oh man. It’s a bootleg of Long May You Run from the H.O.R.D.E. Festival (I think, and whatever that is) where somebody asks him to sing “Old King” and he says he can’t because he forgot his banjo and then goes into this whole spiel about if you think he’s longwinded now you should have heard him in the old days at The Riverboat where he would only play like three songs a set and then the rest of the time he was just “nattering away” Freaking hilarious.
Sounds like Todd, except he’d play nearly as much as he talked when I saw him live.
Yeah I enjoy Todd Snider’s stories as much as I enjoy his songs, and they’ve led me to some really great stuff. I actually read Lawrence Durrell’s Alexandria Quartet because of Todd Snider, in a roundabout way.🙂
How a banana will help if you’ve dropped too much acid is one of his best tales. 🤣
But, the “purple” versions of his albums are classic Snider. More podcast than album, he plays through each of the songs on the album, but with lengthy stories between the songs about the story behind them or whatever goes through his head while he’s “nattering on”.
😎My favorite is “The Ballad of the Devil’s Backbone Tavern” off Near Truths and Hotel Rooms. And “John Prine” from Storyteller
I’ll have to refresh my memory of those, it’s been a long spell.
I mean, he’s nearly more storyteller than singer/songwriter and I haven’t heard many duds yet.
