Bones

I was going to post something today. Not sure what. Not much into posting lately, though. Can’t say why for certain. I just am not up to such things.

But I intended to and I guess that’s what matters.

I think if I could do things differently I would really like to fail forward. It’s early yet, so I just might.

I legit got distracted today.

First it was the “oh bother” honey locust leaves. If you know, then you know. With the twins doing D&D with their friends, the leaves needed to go before the gremlins arrived.

Then there was the apple tree branch that couldn’t find it in itself to finish falling off the tree. For a year. So I helped it.

My eldest works at a second hand store. Someone donated a Roland TD3 electronic drum kit. It’s old school, circa 2000s. But it has a midi in and out. She plugged things in and they seemed to work. Which means I can play synth with the snare if I want to play synth with a snare. Or I can use any samples drum sound I please.

I got it, nat. Used, it runs $400 and up, $1500 if in mint condition.

I got it for $43.

It needed TLC. Massive amounts of TLC. Buckets of TLC. Oil tanker levels.

It’s mostly there.

Tomorrow, I’ll hook it up and see if it needs a new brain. And take inventory of what little bits and bobs need to be replaced (mostly drum screws used to assemble it and a drum key absolutely). But the bones are there.

And that’s all you can expect, I suppose.

Seems weird quoting 2000’s as ‘old school’!
Nice bargain, though. It’s getting more difficult to find good bargains over here now. Second-hand shops are now either charity shops or ‘vintage’ stores – which is an excuse to over charge.
Used to be able to pick up some decent vinyl at one time. Now the shops are picked clean by traders. And savvy use of the interweb has meant a hike in prices.
I’m going to shut up now!
    Happy tidying 🤣

Spot on. We have been shopping at a grocery outlet. When we first started going there (July maybe), a van of tuna was $0.89. The last time we went, that same can was $1.00. 😡

I think more apps liked Vinted or people are just going to start having more yard sales.

      Great find. Enjoy.

I will see if I can manage to get my old drumming chops back. That’s closer to forty years since I last tried to play and wasn’t very good at it. I have a difficult time keeping all four limbs doing something different, lololol.

I’m lucky that my daughter is just savvy enough to spot something like this when it came in. They were going to junk it and she pointed out that her father would probably consider buying it instead of them paying for the electronics disposal.

She had the wrong model when she estimated it was worth $2000, but I could easily convert it to something close for around $500. The changes to the tech are incremental, not wildly different. And having a DAW makes it so that I can have whatever sound I want because of the midi capability.

If it would have ended up at a used instrument store, it would have cost close to 6x what it cost me after they quick cleaned it.

      Connecting it up later…

It sounds to me like you were very productive. Sometimes you’ve got to focus posting energy on other stuff. In your case, it worked! Happy drumming!

We’ll see if I can muster the coordination. 🤣

I see it as a quick way to lay down a rough beat that’s in my head and then clean it up with DAW tools to fix my less than mediocre drumming abilities.

Sometimes tapping out a beat on the keyboard is harder than on a pad.
