Gimme Some Truth (cover) | The Wonder Stuff

“I’m not a Beatles fan, but I am a John Lennon fan.”

I'm sick to death of seeing things
From tight-lipped, condescending,
mama's little chauvinists
All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth, now

I've had enough of watching scenes
With schizophrenic, egocentric,
paranoiac, prima-donnas
All I want is the truth, now
Just gimme me some truth

No short-haired, yellow-bellied,
son of Tricky Dicky
Is going to Mother Hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope

Amazing, isn’t it, how topical this song is 50 years later?

Stuffies doing their cover of the Lennon song.

That song was always a blast to busk in downtown Minneapolis around 1989.

Did I mention I occasionally did “air guitar performances” while singing (sic) with an empty guitar case? I took great efforts to carefully put the “guitar” back into the case when I was done with my performance.

Okay, singing was probably a bit strong of a word to use here. You get the idear tho’, right?

Way too relevant still. Ugh. I do like the image of you setting your air guitar into the case 😂

The tips for that part of the performance were better than when I was vocalizing. I’m not sure how I should take that. 🤣

This was a B-Side for one of their bigger singles. I always liked the way they tore into it.

Yep. I have it somewhere in a box still. I want to say “Golden Green”, but I could be wrong on that. They generally had fun with their covers and Miles was an underappreciated songwriter of the time.

I used to love how a Wonder Stuff single came in a house style, with an inside sleeve and almost always four tracks on a seven inch. Real fan service

Ahhh, see… Us Yanks never got to see those. If we were lucky, it was 12″ singles. More times it was a CD single after about ’88 or ’90. Import rules at the time being as they were as record companies tried to protect their licensing on either side of the Atlantic.

Ohh they were magnificent little things. The best singles band of the 90’s for the fan experience IMHO

I miss 7″ singles most days. Especially those with creative designs and packaging.
