i am of unbelonging
—it is known.
a grotesquerie on display
twist-tangled my limbs
a-jumbled this brain which
says the wrong things
most times and again
a shambling horror
at the threshold outside
creeping and crawling
begging to be let inside
throw the bolt and
lock the latches
set steel to stone
to sharpen your axes
dim the shadows
when given to dawn
safe one more night
from an unbelonging
of which i am known

I may be blending ideas here, but what a haunting and wonderful idea: to be “from an unbelonging
of which i am known”. Gorgeous. Thank you for this gem, Michael.
Thank you, Stacey. Blending of ideas it the best way to approach it. 😉
And sometimes, when the darkness is darkest, the door creaks slightly ajar…
Great piece, Michael.
Thanks Chris. Glad you enjoyed it.
To be known for unbelonging makes me think of Frankenstein’s monster, but also parts of myself. Those parts that hide for fear of being exposed, better left locked behind for fear of the marching of the men with torches.
Oh! That makes me think of Penny Dreadful and that I need to think about watching it again. 🙂
I’ve not watched it! I’m thinking it should move up my list.
It lives up to its name. Campy at times and serious at others. I enjoyed it 🙂
