I like the idea of the grey heron as, for me, a metaphor for what one is searching for – often in sight but impossible to reach.

That’s a great metaphor. I always considered the heron to be a metaphor for stillness and silence, but I can see where you’re coming from too. Thanks Chris.

Yes, I certainly get those associations. It’s interesting how even metaphors can take on different interpretations depending on context.

That’s what makes poetry work. People can form their own associations and all have “correct” interpretations 😊
