    ehwaz
    if you were to call—
    i would ride with wings
    on the dream
    seeking to draw those
    poison years
    away from your heart

A poem prompted by a randomly selected Elder Futhark rune.

Today’s rune is ehwaz, which has a core meaning of “horse”. A horse is often associated with journeys, travel and movement. By extension, it also implies symbiosis with another living creature or fylgja (guardian spirit), and the rune is associated with loyalty or trust. Any undertaken journey may be spatial, emotional or spiritual.

    isaz
    holding our steambreath
    we wait for sunwarmed icicles
    to shatter themselves on below

Today’s rune is isaz, a rune that is translated as the word “ice”. Sources associate isaz with a calmness, present moment or stillness. As ice, isaz is sometimes associated with standstill, stagnation, stasis or contraction; even at times as pristine beauty with seductive qualities.

    kenaz
    huddling close to your flame
    with my frost-ravaged skin
    your lips could heal
    these still-open wounds

A rune poem, based on an Elder Futhark rune selected at random.

    her breath mine

    eihwaz
    time to ride with yew
    under iron sky & snow
    frostcrusted beard with
    knifebit skin cold

    drawing from Old
    my ancestors smile upon me

    do yours?

A rune poem, based on an Elder Futhark rune selected at random.

    thurisaz
    we gnash stone teeth on
    hoarcrust razorwire

    under driving snow
    for all who fall

    algiz
    embracing skymothersun
    asking for her daylight come

    my arms hold boisterous crows
    celebrating her return

    i carve away ritual
    peel away the chapped &
    speak with raw lips
    to swear to sacred love
    again

    she stands stones
    above the water
    everyday waiting in
    each finger bend
    in every finger fold
    a flower waiting for bloom

    hush

    waiting on flows form
    while dawn fills—
    mouth to mouth,
    breath to breath,
    eyes give to eyes
    known

    blackwing at wellside up
    watching the old wind sweep
