Towards the Within — Citizen I.C.E., Dropkick Murphys

Too scared to join the military
Too dumb to be a cop
Citizen I.C.E.

This is an old song of theirs, formerly called “Citizen C.I.A”, and lyrically reworked to reflect current events. The rest of the lyrics are in-video.

I have to admit, I should probably listen to more Dropkick Murphys than I do, and that will probably change in the coming weeks. Every time I encounter news about the band, I see them in an increasingly positive light. I don’t have to like every song a band writes to know them to be stand-up folks that deserve my support.

For those who don’t know, The Dropkicks are a Celtic-Punk band with strong ties to unions in the States. Unlike most politicians who claim the same, their merchandise is actually American- and Union-made whenever possible.

In one famous case in 2025, their singer Casey bet a fan $100 that his Trump MAGA shirt was not made in the US. When it was revealed that the shirt was in fact made in Nicaragua, the fan surrendered it and received a band tee instead. Free. Because it was the right thing to do after shaming the guy from up on stage.

These guys donate their time and their money to causes that impact the working class. They walk their talk. They aren’t just a bunch of angry men shouting diatribes, they act upon their convictions in a way that help people in all walks of life. And not just the white ones. They pay shit forward, unlike most of those pretenders out there who talk real big about the common worker, but screw them every chance they can get.

While this song it probably not the most listenable song of theirs, it is one of the most topical ones at this time. Enjoy.
