Which cuts deeper: midwinter’s rime or a big empty?

Good question. I’m going rime if you have to be in it. A big empty could actually be therapeutic.

I’m starting to work a little bit on that collection of short stories idea, Michael. I’ve got a few interested writers already. I’m thinking 12 New Stories from WordPress Writers, No Money, No Machines (the meaning being that it’s all original material from our minds, and it’s not for profit.) I don’t think any other sort of theme is important, and my main concerns would be us sharing our contributions prior to publication (not for criticism, more for questions, edits, and some sort of community voice) and also the ability to simultaneously release them on each of our sites. I would love for you to moderate, help with logistics(I consider you to be very blog/website savvy) and also write a new story, if you’re interested. Also, we’ll probably need some more authors if you know any😉Are you willing to help me out and take on a part of this? No time limit.

Sure thing. Thanks for the compliments.

Are you thinking a dedicated blog page (with sub-pages) or a full blog (with sub-pages)?

Is this a one-off? Or a running series?

Simultaneous publication will probably be dependent upon folks independently scheduling their posts. Consider less “all twelve all at once” and more of a timed/staged release; i.e., Monday, Wednesday, Friday two authors each of those days a week for two weeks. It avoids oversaturation/overload for followers. Probably request participants repost other authors as they come online.

I can think of a few folks, but I’d probably do a call for submissions. That way, WP friends don’t feel obligated to participate by virtue of an invitation to. To limit who can submit, maybe require that they need someone who is already participating to vouch for them for consideration.

Also consider which kind of content you will not allow. What is a line you cannot cross to participate? How is it decided that a piece will not be included, regardless of merit?

I probably suggest also considering the proposed name as more of a tagline instead of the name. Maybe something shorter and flashier? Two to four words total.

All kinds of thinks there. Do you do Zoom/Google chat/discord/Telegram calls (video optional)? We may want to talk about it in realtime. I only suggest a group service in case we want or need to include others in the discussion.

I’m thinking more we work on them together and then release them. Maybe blogs with restricted viewing for those involved until we release? I feel like I need another hand in this one to get it right. First I would ask for submissions and then read them around, sort of a writer’s group. Then massage them into the book we want to share as a group, then release all on the same day, perhaps with a blurb from each blogger about what the experience meant to them? (I know, sounds hokey, but I think good anyway) Thanks for your ideas and help. My main goal would be putting something good out there that would garner us all some more readers and possibly increase the interest in blogging as a legit medium for fiction? What do you think?

It might mean then that you do create a separate site or subdomain, create a contributor/editor/reader scheme of membership, make drafts reviewable by higher tiers and have an editor move draft to published state and coordinate replicant postings with the authors on their sites (possibly with lag/lead time built in as an “exclusivity” arrangement with the site).

I’ve not built a site like that before, but the tools are there. It’s just a matter of troubleshooting before going live and while drafts are circulating. Probably set up a discord to discuss rather than manage discussions on-site (each author/piece has a dedicated forum stream on a single discord with limited viewing for other contributors to give feedback on).

If you’re thinking 500-word drip feed, it doesn’t necessarily need to be all at once each day, but at a speed that the author wants to do. Once a week? Once a day? Once an hour? Up to you bro. You just need to let someone with publishing privileges know so they can schedule it.

          That kind of thing.

Oh, and I always advocate publishing two pages max a day of any project. Any more is just too much to take in with the morning coffee-but I’ve found people will stick with everyday shorts. Jolene (Chico’s Mom) taught me. Web serial, or soap opera, or whatever you want to call it. I would probably want to do this the same way, but everyone releasing it. There would be egos involved, of course, but I feel like if we work on it all together that might lead to a better product in the long run.

I also think this might serve as a wonderful alternative to NaNoWriMo.🙂

Yeah, not up to NaNoWriMo this year. 🤪
